Book #22: The Things They Carried

Book #22 was a rough read.

Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried is a continuous narrative comprised of short stories about The Vietnam War. The stories involve Jimmy Cross, Henry Dobbins, Rat Kiley, Mitchell Sanders, Norman Bowker, Kiowa, and the main character Tim O’Brien, all members of the Alpha Company.

While the book was not overly filled with violence, I think the book would have been easier to get through if it was filled with gore. Instead, O'Brien writes stories that are dense with emotion and feeling both during and after the war. I can't say that I particularly enjoyed The Things They Carried, but I'm definitely happy that I read it.
